Dugongwatching

The eco tourism program „ Dugong Watching“is a Full Day excursion to several feeding grounds along the Busuanga coast line and two turtle islands for skin and scuba divers. If a dugong is spotted (they surface every 4 to 5 minutes), we watch the animal first from the boat (like wale watching) than approach the dugong by snorkelling and if the dugong don’t shy off, on Scuba. We always offer the divers two dives on a small coral garden and sea grass bed with all its glitters. The trip starts with 30 minutes information about the dugong and a briefing about the trip (video show included). Over the last years we have an 80% chance to see a dugong during the trip. There are average 20 dugongs living in our bay.

Beside the main dugong watching trip to the north we offer also dugong watching in between the wreck dives on two small feeding grounds and another full day excursion for dugongs to the south.

If the guests are lucky, they can see the dugong even at the club Paradise House Reef. We have visiting dugongs at the house reef in average once the month.

The Dugong Conservation Program was based in Dimakya Island (Club Paradise) for two years (1995 – 1997) and organized by WWF. Toba Aquarium Japan sponsored the project together with Club Paradise. After the WWF project, the Dugong Dive Center took over the protection (all dive staff are member of a coast guard auxiliary division) and education champagnes in fishing villages. After two more years research on, how to do dugong watching, the Dugong Dive Center started with the trips for tourists in 1999.
